GVC 0.6 beta 1

GVC is a free front-end or GUI for windows written for the FFMPEG video converter. FFMPEG is a free, opensource video converter which offers a lot of options for converting audio and video. FFMPEG can decode (and convert) files of almost any format, including some rare formats such as game music files.

GVC features:

What's new in this release:

- GUI: New toolbar. New icons. Rearranged a few windows.
- Profiles: Profiles are now saved as XML files. Older preset files can be easily converted to XML. Support for 2-pass encoding. New profile editor. 20 new profiles.
- Tags: You can now add tags for the audio/video files that you transcode. All existing information such as Artist, Album etc which are already present in the source file, will be written to the transcoded file.
- Encoding modes: 5 new encoding modes for video - Average bitrate (1 pass or 2 pass) , Constant bitrate (CBR), Fixed quantizer, Constant rate factor (H264) and Same quality mode.
- Progress window: The progress window has been redesigned and rewritten. It looks a lot better and its more convenient.
- FFmpeg is now optional: You can use GVC as a frontend for MediaInfo only. If FFmpeg is not found in the application directory on startup, then all options related to FFmpeg will be disabled from the GUI.
- Crop and resize: New option for previewing and cropping the black borders from the video. Each video can be cropped and resized individually. The resizing method can also be selected ( bilinear, bicubic, lanczos, etc )
- Advanced options: Nearly 90% of the advanced options provided by the FFmpeg CLI has been implemented by the GUI in this version. Presets are also available for the advanced settings.
- Subtitles: You can disable, copy or transcode subtitles from the source files.
- Log: A log will be written to disk for all transcoding sessions. If trancoding fails then you can see a detailed report of what went wrong.
- New Help system: There are help icons everywhere. Click on them to see help messages.
- Updated FFmpeg build to Revision 13712 (08-06-2008 )
- Updated MediaInfo to v0.7.6.2
- Huge number of bugfixes. Too many to list here.

Note: GVC requires Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 or above.
